Lavee Biblical Artwork

The Lavee Studio was established in the seventies by Menachem and Bracha Lavee, both artists, Bezalel graduates. A few years ago their daughter Mary (also Bezalel student) and her husband joined in. The studio is a place where each one of the participants can express oneself in any number of techniques and materials, while exchanging opinions and ideas with the others. There are various artistic directions in the studio. Menachem paints, designs and creates unique furniture, which are painted later by Mary Goldmintz Lavee, who with her husband Micha design and produce a line of beautiful products for the home. Bracha Lavee creates tapestries. Her themes are Judaica and Bible stories. Bracha employed a variety of artistic techniques and discovered the flexibility of felt about thirty years ago. The theme of Jerusalem and stories of the Bible provide her with endless sources of inspiration. Bracha captures the warmth one generally associates with tapestry and the attention to fine detail typical of oil painting. She has thus found a unique way to combine Judaic symbols with scenery. Most of Bracha's works are large and decorative and can be found in private collections and public settings. In order to let more people enjoy Bracha's works they decided more than 13 years ago to publish series of reproductions of her tapestries. These are carefully done prints embossed with gold, matted in the studio and hand signed by Bracha. They publish a new edition every year or two and add new forms of matting and arrangements of the prints. Right now they have about 100 images in a few sizes, with each one of them first as a tapestry. Recently the studio offers framed pictures too.
